Shop IKEA.

Shop IKEA.

IKEA opened in town today. People had been waiting in line since Monday for the Grand Opening. Monday? Seriously?

I mean, they have some cool kids stuff, but their inexpensive grown-up stuff isn't all that inexpensive or grown up.

Don't get me wrong, it's on my list to go, but waiting in line to get in when the doors open? Entertainers for the opening day crowds?

Strange.

No no I have! I have been to three of them in two different states (searching for the leaf canopy for my kids' bed --that I did finally find and take home on the airplane with me but have never put up). Their kids stuff is fun. The rest of it I just don't quite understand all the hype about!

Ok, IKEA is seriously like Disneyland for grownups, it is the BEST place on EARTH! That said, I am not sure that I would wait in line to get in the doors, I mean the furniture isn't exactly GOING anywhere and if you didn't have the furniture last week, you probably could wait anther week or so, right? I mean were these people sitting in their empty apartments going, just WAIT until IKEA opens!
note: I write this from my computer on my IKEA desk, sitting on my IKEA chair next to the IKEA kitchen table... I think you get the point, every piece of furniture in our entire house except our bed and our hand me down couch are from IKEA. Their stuff IS pretty awesome.

I wouldn't go NEAR this ikea for at least a month. oh, but i do have a trick. look up what you want online (and you can check online to see if it's in stock in your particular store). Write down the funny sweedish name and then when you go, park in the loading section by checkout, sneak in the exit door and right before check out are all the rows of shelved items that if you know the name you can ask an employee quickly, grab it and you'll be out of there without going through the disney land maze of the store. works every time...if you know what you want...

Hey Michelle,

Thanks for your note on our blog. I had a couple of free minutes today to look up your blog and it was very entertaining... you are a great writer!

Re: IKEA... my husband travels to Sweden a bunch for work. The Swedes don't really buy this stuff... smells fishy to me. Although, according to my husband, the Swedish meatballs they sell in the cafeteria at IKEA are pretty authentic. :)

But liz, walking through the "Disney Land" maze is half the fun!

I've been twice. Frankly, I find the maze frustrating. I can now say, "been there, done that."
